Materia Viva N11

 Driven by the desire to visually witness the living, hidden form of matter, Cozzani uses "fluid" materials such as wax and fiberglass, which he applies directly to the rock's surface. The result is a record of an experience, a fossilized presence, a snapshot of a process in constant evolution. Like a second skin, the applied wax blends with the dust covering the rock's body, onto which the artist applies resin-soaked fiber, gently conforming to the rock's original shapes. After drying, the fiberglass, dust, and wax are peeled away from the rock's surface, fusing the organic with the inorganic.

Skin landscapes, pulsing organs, bone structures, and fossil-like presences emerge from within each unique floating sculpture. Communicating with each other, each piece serves as a letter in an abstract language that connects the human body to the rock's, manifesting a visceral mutual belonging. When inanimate objects transform in a manner similar to biological entities, the distance between the human and the non-human diminishes. After all, as living beings, we are conceived within the laws of nature. Our bodies' matter blossoms in an unbroken cellular interaction. Our skin takes the shape of time, our bones follow the shape of the ground we walk on. Our organs in constant motion. We know that we will eventually die. But will that be our true end? Like rocks, we may transform into something else.
